Ok, ok, so it may not be fall just yet, but August welcomes in the beginning of the school year in Austin, and as such, back to school sales and...tax-free weekend!
I recently had the opportunity to go to fall fashion preview events at the Round Rock Outlets and San Marcos Premium Outlets, and we were treated to quite the wonderful morning! Aside from viewing some of the hottest fashions and back to school looks from Tommy Hilfiger, Neiman Marcus, Banana Republic and other retailers, we also got to hear about some of the amazing deals available to those who are members of the VIP Club available at each outlet. For a measly $5, you are given a booklet with special offers available at the retailers on site. For example, 20% off an item at Pottery Barn (which obviously pays for the book itself already in most cases!). Other participating retailers include Ralph Lauren, Neiman Marcus Last Call, Restoration Hardware, Victoria's Secret, Coach, and many more!
In case you needed another reason to shop the outlets, aside from great deals, seasonal sales and the VIP club, both San Marcos Premium Outlets and Round Rock Premium Outlets will be holding back-to-school events for tax-free weekend this upcoming weekend, August 8 & 9. Aside from the obvious savings on tax, there will be store-specific sales and promotions going on, as well as kid-friendly entertainment on site. For more specific promotions and event details, see the San Marcos Premium Outlets and Round Rock Premium Outlets websites.
Naturally, after the event, I wasn't leaving the outlets without hitting some of my favorite stores! Ava's school has uniforms, so we didn't need much in the way of back-to-school clothing, but seeing as how she's off to Kindergarten this fall and that's a very big deal for us, I let her pick out any backpack and lunch bag that she wanted when we went to Pottery Barn (they have an entire area devoted to kids: bedding, school supplies, tote bags, and more!).
We also needed some shoes to go with her uniform, and though we wanted one pair that would go with everything, every little girl who has to wear a uniform should get to have a pair of shoes with flair, too ;)
The Round Rock Outlets has one of my kids very favorite outlets: The Disney Store Outlet! Seeing as how we just got back from Disneyland, they were just dying for something from one of their favorite characters, and thanks to the Disney outlet's prices, I could happily oblige! They have Princess toddler dolls for $15 - a steal! And their famous Disney plush animals start at $12! Anytime I can make both my kids and my budget happy? I'm all for it! They also carry merchandise specific to the parks, and seeing as how my one regret was not picking up an awesome Disneyland frame for our family picture in front of the train station, I was so excited to find the frame below at half price! YES PLEASE!
Not that my shopping trip was entirely selfless. I'm hoping that we're nearing the end of the diaper bag season of my life, and so wanting to get a trendy and yet functional tote, I picked up the cutest tote at Hartmann. In fact, I loved it so much, I left with the matching wallet. Win-win!
I also picked up this gorgeous and petite interlocking heart ring at Marc Robinson Jewelry - the perfect addition to my jewelry! I love it!
What is your favorite store at either the San Marcos Premium Outlets or Round Rock Premium Outlets? What is the best deal you've scored there? Do you plan to shop there for back-to-school or this upcoming tax-free weekend?
