Major Organizational Overhaul.

This weekend, and much of today, was spent doing some major organizing and sorting through Ava's clothing and toys. We were so incredibly fortunate that we were given a ton of things from different families that I worked for, so I sorted through clothes from now until size 6-7. Yep. And I would say that she's set completely through age 3, despite the fact that my shopaholic self would surely purchase some adorable things I can't say no to between now and then. I managed to get everything through 12month into one side of her walk-in closet, and then fancy 18M and 2T things splitting the other side...geeeeez.

We also came up with three bags of donations, as well as put all her clothing we're keeping just in case we decide to go round two (which we totally will, who am I kidding) into plastic storage bins for added preservation and protection.

Then, on top of all that, I used another plastic bin and put all of the toys that are at her level or just beyond into it so that she can crawl over to it and pull things out. She's been doing that with the toybox I made for her, but it can't hold nearly enough and has a lid that's hard for her to open, so this'll work better for us for the time being. She's also been getting into the cabinets in our entertainment center as well, where we stored video games, DVD's and the likes, so those have now been moved and have given way to board books and other baby-friendly items. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em, right?

How do you make your home baby-friendly? What are ways in which you stay organized during these days of ever-changing sizes and developmental stages?

  1. P loves to dig through her toy box, too! I have one toy box that we set out specifically for P to pick the toys she wants. Then we invested in a coffee table that we can store stuff inside. It's been a life saver, but it is already pretty full. I think our next move will be to buy a house with a game room, lol!

  2. Um.... define organization... lol. I apparently have none. Riley's toys are all over the living room and I know I started out with an organized closet and dresser for her.... hmmmm. Looks like I'll have to take some inspiration from you and get to work. :-)

  3. We haven't gotten to babyproofing the entire house yet... but I have noticed we are going to have to do that soon because B is a FAST little crawler and doesn't like being confined!!!! He is not as content as he used to be in his Pack n Play and the Jumperoo only lasts a little while too!!! He wants to move, move, move!!! But we have his room mainly babyproofed so he can move around in there as much as he'd like, for the most part. He has a multi-level toy bin that he loves to stand against!!! And pull toys out of and throw them everywhere. :)

  4. Awesome! I have all of Jack's clothes organized as well. We have a ton of clothes going up to size 3T and some even bigger. I have 2 huge bins in the basement full. Unfortunately, Jack and I share a bedroom right now so there isn't much closet space. I completely cleaned it out last summer and again after he was born, but there's only so much I can do! I have a set of plastic drawers in the living room as well as a small bin I use as a toy box. It definitely helps! It looks like you are doing great though- I need to do so much more! I just don't have much room in this small townhouse. I like what you said- if you can't beat 'em, join 'em and that is exactly what I have been trying to do!

  5. Everything in here is organized and baby-proofed. Except baby's room. Go figure. :p

Her clothes are kind of wherever I can fit them. The stuff she isn't using is just kind of stuffed away. It's all neat but it's a wee chaotic for my tastes. I try to get it under control, meanwhile my overzealous helper is in there...helping...and it doesn't get very far.

Shopping for baby clothes is a wonderful hobby.

Nothing that isn't dangerous here is forbidden. I let her have at it with opening stuff and moving stuff and it causes me much distress at the time but it makes it easier to steer her away from the stuff I really don't want her to touch. I do most of my cleaning once she goes to bed. And I kind of just adapt as I go. As SHE goes.
